BEN VAN BUEREN (b. 1983) is a composer, guitarist and music technology designer, with a penchant for the theatrical and the interweaving of music with text, image and action. He designs music and sound for musical theater, opera and installations as well as for media such as animation, film and podcasts. Collaborations with musicians from classical and contemporary traditions as well as pop and musical are a common thread throughout all projects. His musical language is direct and accessible, sometimes with a rough edge. In form leaning towards contemporary music, in sound indebted to pop music.

In 2021 and 2022 he wrote the piece ‘Back To The Chorus‘, a 40-minute concert for percussion, piano, double bass, violin, clarinet, flute and electronics. Performed by ensemble Postland.

For the film ‘Ring of Resilience‘ he composed for symphony orchestra, choir, soloists and tape (premiere at Festival O. in De Doelen, Rotterdam, 2021).

From 2021 to 2024, Ben is involved as a core member in ‘Grondproeven‘, a theatrical triptych by Titia Bouwmeester. Performed on farms, dealing with the future of the Dutch farmer amid the force field of politics, climate change, market and consumer.
